What stage of change are you in today?

Apparently there's five of them, according to this model, which can be applied to the process of effecting any kind of positive change in one's life:

  • Pre-contemplation
  • Contemplation
  • Preparation
  • Action
  • Maintenance

I am told some people tend to drift between contemplation and preparation, unable to actually advance to action. These people will most likely never effect change. You don't want to be one of these people. You are also probably better off not considering them as potential dates, bosses, landlords, or coauthors.

where's the 6th stage? Complete digging in of the heels.

Or the 7th? Denial.

You get booted off the island at that point.

Why TF is this model called the "transtheoretical" model of change? Whoever invented it should get past the "contemplation" stage and take some action to improve the world.

This is meant to improve the world, one sorry ass at a time.
