Bring back anonymous comments?

Polls have closed. CNN is calling it for good riddance.

Exit polls in the race show that "good riddance" was put over the top by someone with their own office on the 2nd floor.

The 51%-49% result is interesting. Do you think the vote was split along gender lines?

um, i think the vote was split upon "repeated voting" lines...

ANyway, even IF the poll weren't bogus, those who voted for "good riddance" are people who are obviously comfortable with their own registered blogger.com status. Hooray for maintaining the status quo. Those who voted for bringing back anonymous posting (and for most of the time they were the majority, but of course their votes didn't count until the results were favorable to the tyrannical blog admin, if indeed the votes ever were favorable) are being completely shafted, here. Besides, so what if they are in the minority? Is it so unexpected that maybe only a minority of people don't want traceable blogger.com accounts? Why is it that only the admins get to know who's really posting? What the freaking hell is wrong with you? One vote in favor of anonymous comments should've been enough! Because of a single offensive anonymous comment someone made one time, no one can comfortably and easily post anonymously anymore? Sheesh! Grow a backbone! Without anonymous rights, this blog will suffer. Indeed, the flavor of it has already changed and it tastes putrid. The terrorist has definitely won.

So I for one am abandoning this blog in protest. I know there will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth. I will explore other entrepreneurialanimistic avenues. SNARK! is up for sale. Email me directly at forevershaken@gmail.com to discuss this excellent investment opportunity.

SCREW YOUR PATHETIC HERD BEHAVIOR! GOOD-BYE, MISGUIDED, DESPOTIC ADMINISTRATIVE SCUM!

Actually, wait. I have one pending transaction as related to the conclusion of today's quasimodo celebrity collage challenge post, which I am duty-bound to complete and after which I will cease SNARK! operations.

LONG LIVE MARTINOZ BLOG DRAMA

This is highly misleading and factually inaccurate. It is possible for a person to create a totally anonymous account such that the admins don't know who they are. In fact a number of these accounts currently exist already. They're easy to set up.

1. Go create a new gmail address. Here's a suggestion: sakjhdkjh@gmail.com
2. Using the newly created email address, register to be an author on the blog.
3. Pick a screen name to use on the blog with this account.

The admins can only see screen names and whatever email address was used to create the account. There's nothing to stop you from performing steps 1-3 above multiple times if you'd like to post comments from multiple accounts.

Furthermore, screen names are not unique. Every single blog member could change their screen name to 'anonymous' if they wanted to (one user already has).

Oh, is that all.

I am aware of this. However, there is at least one thing to stop people from doing it: pain, as in, "What a pain in the ass." Maybe they don't want fifteen gmail accounts.

Besides, if you're trying to say that comments/posts could effectively be anonymous by performing those steps, then what precisely was the point of disabling anonymous comments?? What motivates you?

It was obviously just a knee-jerk response. Protecting one thin-skinned admin's feelings has become more important than letting our anonymous friends speak.

That's precisely the point. If you'd like to leave rude or untoward comments you still have the ability to do so, it's just not as easy as it used to be. So no one is being censored here; there are simply more steps involved.

It's akin to mandatory waiting periods for the purchase of firearms. No one is taking away your protected right to bear arms. But the waiting period allows for a "cooling-off" period for gun purchasers considering crimes of passion or impulse suicides.
